Distortion from switching power supplies

In some past posts, I said that I could hear distortion whenever my cable box and DVD player were turned on. And, I only have old-school analog power supplies in my whole sound system.

I was surprised to come across this post:

This guy actually measured it! I'm not sure his solution - connecting the (-) to Earth will work in every instance. But it's worth a try.

My suggestion: unplug any gear that uses switching power supplies. Or put them on an extension cord that has an On/Off switch and turn it off when listening to analog.
