thanks will do...certainly equipment plays a big part in sound, I just get the feeling I missed something or it's a minor tweak needed.

Try loading it at 100 ohms.

I had the same symptoms Gene, had to go back and recheck my initial set up. The alignment was off just a 'tad', made a huge difference.

thanks guys. I will recheck a few things and call tomorrow if necessary. The .8 was easy as pie maybe I took something for granted here.

guess I have to make that call tomorrow. Just cannot get it right. Perhaps the .4 isn't a good match for my phono like the.8 was. One thing for sure sound did get better with a higher vtf. 1.65 sounded like it was barely making contact. I double checked everything, added a some weight to 1.80 and it did improve. 100 load and 200 were not good 400 was better, 800 the best with arm raised pretty high. I am an old trouble shooter so you know I will try to work the problem till I go nuts..lol...but in this case I going to need the tech support.

Sorry Gene if I sent you the .4 by accident, you can return it and I will send you a .8 but your phono should work perfectly with the .4. Set the arm slightly up in the back, 1.75 grams tracking force and 500 ohms, that is the magic combo for most setups with the .4.

Thanks Harry and to quote Steve, he said 1.65g is ideal for the JMW 10" 3D arm which I have on my Prime... ;)

been busy so I didn't get to call. I don't have 500 on the Chinook but will try 1.75 tracking and switch between 400 and 800.Thanks very much Harry for the offer . I will contact you one way or the other. In defense of the .4 I am now using a Vinnie Rossi LIO tube integrated whereas b4 I was using a Mac tube premp and Mac amp with the.8. Still have the same Harbeths Dac and Phono and same interconnects. However tubes in Mac were Genalex Gold Lion 12x7 and the LIO has Genalex Gold lions 6922. No change in the Chinook.Perhaps swapping tubes in the LIO is the answer as the .4 like like the .8 is a beautifuly built cartridge.
