How Many Of Original VPI Plinths Built?

Postby Mister Pig » Wed Aug 14, 2019 11:04 pm

I have always wondered how many of the original VPI plinths were built. Also what were the drive units and arms they were cut for.

I acquired one a few years ago. It was fitted with a Denon DP 75 and Acos GST 801 arm. I sanded down and refinished the frame. Had the tone arm serviced also. Installed an Analysis Plus Silver Apex tone arm cable, and even though I have the factory head shell I use an LP Gear Zupreme on it. The cartridge currently installed is an Ortofon A90

We made about 300 and they are disappearing from the world!! Let me know if you want to sell or trade yours for a new VPI, I would like one for my collection.

I did not know there were so few of those built! The top plate is really an impressive bit of fabrication. It reflects the gumption of those audio companies starting out in the 80's. The finish is a bit utilitarian, I have the band aid wrappers to prove it, but the result was high performance! I don't think there is a top plate of any plinth that could compare to this. At least in terms of any kind of sane price tag.
