VPI Prime Scout

VPI Prime Scout

Postby Laurie » Fri Jul 13, 2018 7:19 am

Hello VPI,

Considering a future VPI turntable purchase, I already have two but would sell my Traveller to fund this, and I’m wondering if there are any plans to bring out different finishes on the Prime Scout? I think it would look great with a wood veneer finish or a gloss red finish.

Just wondering.

Cheers

I know of a few Prime and Prime Scout owners who have taken their tables to an automotive vinyl wrap specialist to have it covered. It is not very expensive and many can do it while you wait. The nice thing is that it is easily reversible and you can change the color/pattern often.

Will the HR-X mini feet fit this model?

Can anyone tell me the composition of the standard arm? Are the black parts of the JMW 9 on the Prime Scout standard arm plastic or painted aluminium?

Cheers

The JMW 9 arm is all metal with no plastic or 3D printed parts.

I don't think you can obtain HR-X mini feet at this time. Better to consider any of the upgraded Prime feet for it. Marc at VPI can tell you which ones will work. IMHO I consider the 3D arm as the best single upgrade that can be made to the table. Also I should say I have a Scout 2 and not the Prime Scout. I'm not sure what the differences are besides the shape. I imagine that like most VPI tables there are a myriad of different configurations it might come in.

I’m pretty sure I can secure some HR-X mini feet from somewhere. LP Gear may have some stock so I’ll check with them soon.

Next question, is it possible to use the Prime motor with the Prime Scout? Not sure if the Prime motor is taller than the standard one?

Thanks to all that respond.

Laurie,

My question to you is why would you do that? When upgrading, the best resale value for your old table is attained by selling it as a complete unit, and purchasing your future "target" table as a complete unit to sell as such on your next upgrade. There are some VPI dealers who accept trade-ins, but as "complete" units, generally achieving the objective of less out of pocket cost to you for your upgrade. The same general resale guidance applies to sale of your table to an individual. Sell your old table as a complete unit, at a fair price, for a quicker sale. YMMV, but that is my suggestion.

I get what you’re suggesting as it makes complete sense. I believe in keeping things as original as possible. However, this TT will not be upgraded in future for another one but rather stay in my second system forever. The other system has a VPI Classic 1 that will also remain forever. It’s about getting the best out of the Prime Scout without spending a fortune.

If money were no object then I’d just buy the Prime but that’s out of my budget.
