Prime Signature and Cadenza Bronze coming!

Prime Signature and Cadenza Bronze coming!

Postby Rookiebob » Wed Apr 18, 2018 6:24 pm

Hi all, I am new here and not that old with vinyl!
After few months with my Project 2xperience and a Lehmann Black cube Statement, I upgraded to a prime signature and a Cadenza Bronze.
They are on their way to my place and I can't make a decision regarding the Phonostage!
I am asking for your advice!

After readings and discussions with my local dealer, I came to a short list:
• Trigon Advance
• Lehmann Decade Phono Stage
• Parasound JC3+
• Parasound JC3Jr

What are your thoughts? Which one would you go for?
Did I miss some phonostage in this price range?

Thanks for your help

Congratulations, and welcome!

You missed the VPI Voyager. It's well worth considering at its $2500 price.

Check the reviews on the Sutherland 20/20. Everyone loves it I have a 20/20, and it’s a great, highly-adjustable phono preamp. Rich

Yes - You missed one very key option. That is the Herron Audio VTPH-2A Tube Phono Preamp. Don't buy anything else until you investigate the Herron..

Many here have reported significant unresolvable Hum issues with the JC3...Do some searching around here on the forum.....

+1 BIG TIME on the Herron. I auditioned the Parasound Halo JC3+, the Sutherland Duo and the Herron. The Herron was clearly superior overall. I was one of those that had persistent hum issues with the JC3+ too, but the Herron is much better even without the hum.

Call and speak to Keith directly, he will cut you a deal too. Seriously, get the Herron and be happy forever!

Thanks all for your feedback.

After reading posts about JC3, I removed from my list. I might be good but I really don't want to fight against hum!
The Herron looks great, but it is not my price range. I will call Keith to see what price he can make.

Not much feedback about the Lehmann? Should I remove it from my list?

Congratulations on the prime signature. You may also want to consider the Simaudio 310 phono stage and separate 320 power supply. They do come up used from time to time. You may want to check on

Two of my friends run this combo with excellent results. I could easily recommend the Simaudio 610 lp evolution phono stage I use however it is quite pricey.

I’m not familiar with your list, so can’t comment on their SQ, but for price and features I would add the PS Audio NuWave Phono converter to the list. They are building till their parts stock is gone, so the price is reduced to $999. I just got one so can confirm high quality build. Took about three weeks to burn-in. I also just got a better power cable, Shunyata Venom V14, that makes it even better. The PS Audio manual confirms this in general. Have a look at the online manual or reviews, you will note it ALSO has a high quality phono and analogue to digital converter. So you can rip to computer. But, if you do you will still need a DAC for the best playback quality. They have a 30 day trial period and will pay shipping back if you don’t want to keep it. Dealers in Austin did not have what I wanted so that is the route I went. I’m using Audicity (free) for ripping to my Mac laptop.
I’m sure the early reviews did not use an upgraded power cable, so keep that in mind when making your decision.
