TONE ARM VTA

I have a classic signature turntable with the VPI JMW 10 3D arm and a Kiseki purple heart cartridge. To bring the cartridge parallel to the album (a starting point for VTA adjustment) I have to bring the tone arm below parallel (pivot point under, front of arm above) Is this unusual? I thought arm and cartridge should both be parallel.
Thanks

Yes, that does sound unusual. Can you post a picture of your cartridge / tonearm combination? The head shell should be parallel to the arm tube and since the Kiseki purple heart is a rectanglular cartridge everything should be parallel.

I have the same cartridge and tonearm on my Prime and when my cartridge is parallel to the record it looks like my tone arm is just a hair above parallel. It's hard to tell though.

I have used the Keseki PH for over a year in the house and at two shows, the back needs to be up slightly to track correctly. The arm should be up roughly 1/8" to 1/4" in the back depending on the sound you like but definitely up in the back.

The angle of the stylus mounted to the cantilever dictates where you set the arm height, not the cartridge body, raise the back and enjoy the added smoothness and detail.

If I may ask how heavy were you tracking?

I get great results at 2.3 grams.

That's where I am with the cartridge body parallel to the record.

Take the back up 1/8", put something on the platter that is 1/8" plus the thickness of a record and reset the tracking force, it will be lighter when you raise the arm so you have to add weight.

Thanks I will try that.

I have it set to a tracking force of 2.3 grams. I'll try to get a good picture to you shortly, but here's a picture of the cantilever. Maybe my setting is do to the placement of the diamond to the cantilever. Thanks for the input everyone. Stan
