Re: Loading the VAS at 500

You could get Y-plugs and make up (or buy) loading plugs with 1000 ohm resistors, and that, with the 1000 ohm setting on the Ares, will give you a 500 ohm load. T'would be much cheaper than another phono stage! Assuming you're running RCA interconnects.

I ended up trying a VAS MC-One step up transformer, and running it into my Ares at the MM/HOMC settings (47,000 ohms). Now the only glitch is that I have is gain related...too little with one set of tubes in the secondary spots (12AU7) and too much with other tubes in there (12AX7). I have a set of 12AT7s on the way which should do the trick!

Drew:

What 12AT7 did you buy?

I am very interested in hearing your take on the differences between the Cadenza Black and the VAS Nova Sig. on the 3D arm.

I ordered a matched pair of Mullard 6201s.

I need to do more break in and listening to the Nova, and then swap back to the Cadenza to verify some of my thoughts...so far so good, though!
