Hey All,

Continuing to investigate whether my Lyra Delos is a good match for the VPI 3D 10" arm on my Prime - I am using the VinylEngine tools as kindly recommended earlier in the post to determine this but not sure what to use for the compliance value as the tool I think is looking for a value rated at 10Hz but according to the specs I have for Delos, its rated at 100Hz as follows: Compliance: Approx. 12 x 10 cm/dyne at 100Hz

So using the following parameters:

Arm Effective Mass: 9g
Cartridge Mass: 7.3g
Fastener Mass: 0.5g
* Compliance: 12 x 10-6 cm/dyne
Resonant Frequency: 11.2 Hz

Does this look correct or should I be using a different value than '12' used for the Compliance given the following note on the website: *Dynamic compliance @ 10Hz

If the values used are correct, is being a touch above the 11Hz value OK or is there something I should be looking into to get this value to a better value which I assume would be lower around 10Hz?

VinBob, 0.5g for the fasteners? The SS nylon screws, the lightest ones in the bunch, are 1.04g for the pair.
Pass XP-20, AVA 600R, Shahinian Diapasons, PS Audio DMP & DS, VPI Avenger with 12" 3DR, Benz SL and L2, SS Zephyr Mk.2, Ortofon Quintet Mono, Pass XP-15, Logitech Touch, RSA Haley and PSA conditioning, PAD and AZ cables.

Just went with what seems to be a standard value that I have found with my googling - I am just using the standard screws provided with the Lyra Delos - should I be using a different value?

Is this where using the Soundsmith screws by adding more weight above the cartridge helps with improvement of the resonance Frequency for cartridge to tonearm matching?

That's' the theory. Using the tool on vinyl engine, if you went with the aluminum screws the resonance value would be 10.73Hz, with the brass (total fastener mass 6.14g) it would drop to 9.69Hz.

makes no difference in sound.....may be a bit (but only a bit) easier to use.

Thanks for the feedback all - So the question still remains, am I using the correct value of '12' for the compliance parameter for the calculator on Vinyl Engine even though the Lyra specs are based on 100Hz and not 10Hz as required on the Vinylengine tool?

The VE calculator assumes that the quoted cartridge compliance is referenced to 10Hz. The Lyra Delos compliance is referenced at 100hz. You need to convert the Lyra compliance to 10hz. A general rule is 1.5 to 2 times the 100hz figure to approximate the 10hz.

12x10⁻⁶Cm/Dyne @100hz = 18x10⁻⁶Cm/Dyne to 24x10⁻⁶Cm/Dyne @10hz

1) At 18x10⁻⁶Cm/Dyne and using 17.3g (eff. mass + cart weight + fastener weight)
Resonant Frequency: 158 / sqrt(311) = 8.95 hz

2) At 24x10⁻⁶Cm/Dyne and using 17.3g (eff. mass + cart weight + fastener weight)
Resonant Frequency: 158 / sqrt(415) = 7.75 hz

Potential resonance frequency: 7.75 to 8.95 Hz

I noticed you used 1g for the fastener weight value which I had originally used 0.5g for the calculator - I assume I had it too low?

Thanks for confirming the compliance for the cartridge and tonearm are OK. However, is there a better value that one should aim for and if so, is this possible to do without having to change the cartridge?
