Turn Table Lighting

Postby Robes » Wed Nov 08, 2017 4:50 pm

Hi All-

What are you doing for illumination of the platter area of your TT's? I see nice bendable type pencil thin lights usually placed behind the TT in pics across the forums. Anyone give me some good brands & where to get them idea's? Anything special or tips in what works best, electric/battery/bulb type/on-off switching etc.?

Thanks,
Robes

This is my 4th TT light and I finally found a keeper. It has 3 different brightness settings and a very long goose neck.

I use these LED strip lights not just for TT lighting but also over my record collection.

Just be careful with LED etc type lights that have a wall wart transformer as they can inject noise into the power line.

Amen to the LED issue. The ikea lamp I have is my 'hum injector' for my turntable.

Funny that I don't have any hum anywhere in either system. The picture shows unshielded litz wire running very close to the LED strip and there is little noise injected.

I use a simple clip on bendable light that I picked up in Bed Bath and beyond for 10 bucks.

The LEDs themselves won't inject the hum. And those audio wires are perpendicular to the power cable running to the LEDs, The power cable of a noisy wall wart will act like an antenna, and that's how it get's picked up by the system. However, since your signal cable is at a right angle to the power supplies 'antenna', it couples the least amount of signal

Either that or you got a well filtered wall wart and it's not spewing garbage everywhere. Some wall warts are much worse than others. Especially the switching supply type.

Littlite. Not cheap, but excellent. Dims all the way down to a red glow too, which is cool for late night listening sessions.

This is the best. Takes up little space and the brightness is adjustable. Very flexible also so you can move it to adjust the light position on the fly if needed. I have used one for over 10 years and the bulb is still good. I have a spare bulb but never had to change it (probably will go out this weekend now!)
