Never owned one, but I've heard them in systems that sounded very good at Soundsmith's showroom and at shows. Stereophile rates it Class B.

Although I have never heard that particular Ortofon Cartridge, my good friend has one paired with a Soundsmith Paua cartridge on a VPI HRX. I would have thought that to be a mismatch that the cartridge costs I believe 3-4 X more than the pre amp. To my surprise the MCP-2 sounds fantastic with "that" cartridge. If you can get one that is returnable, I would definitely give it a serious listen.

The MCP-2 has played very well with my Transfiguration Phoenix S, Van den Hul Grasshopper I and VAS Nova Signature cartridges. Its variable loading is a wonderful feature.

There's no on/off switch on this preamp. Does it stay pugged in at all times, or, should it be unplugged when not in use?

Don't know about this particular unit, but pho pres typically stay on all the time. My Sutherland does, for example. Rich
