Continue: Upgrading VPI using SOTA BLDC motor:
17. Thread wiring through motor housing to power plug area.
18. Solder condor 3 wires to plug assembly.
(My note: No soldering is required.SOTA has implemented ready-made clips (male-female) that snap and join the motor with the power plug assembly).

I hope that my above presentation will solve some questions, overcome some reservations about converting the VPI motor pod in order to accept the SOTA BLDC motor.

Votan:
That is awesome. Great to see how to convert the VPI motor pod to accept the BLDC motor by yourself BTW, do you have the lathe or find someone that has one? If the latter, how much typically do they charger?

Hi edw,
No, I don't have my own lathe, but I have a friend of mine who has a machine shop and most importantly it's an amateur very good saxophonist, and entry level audiophile, so it responds directly to my (for ordinary mortals, considered at least peculiar) requirements. For the surgeries I described, he charged me 25 €. Working time 30 minutes.

Update: As time goes by with Total Eclipse Package in action, I find that things are constantly improving sonically! Obviously motor, as well as contacts and circuits are running-in/braking-in in a clearly listenable way!

Great post and thank you. I assume the pulley can be exchanged as well so the originality is kept in tact, as well as, the ability to use multiple belts?

If you mean to replace the SOTA pulley with the VPI HR-X multiple groove pulley, I don't think that's true because the axis of the SOTA BLDC motor is larger in diameter than the corresponding VPI motor.
You can use only 2 belts with SOTA pulley.

That's correct Votan. Great write up above Votan and glad you are hearing similar improvements to what I am hearing.

Hey Dorian - Given Votan's comments about where the belt rides on the platter, are you going to look into raising yours or keeping lower as you have it today? Would love your thoughts on this...

Cheers,
Vin.

Hey Vin, I'm very happy with how things are sounding and am enjoying playing records too much to do any more tinkering right now.

If you want to try it, you could order the taller pulley from SOTA and see if it lines up. :D

You can use only 2 belts with SOTA pulley.

However, (?) I was told you could also use the wide flat belt from SOTA. I guess that means the belt would straddle some platter grooves. You could also have an HRX pulley machined to fit the new motor. Also, I think VA had some HRX style made of Al to fit the larger shaft.
Votan,
Thanks for posting the motor pod modding information. It cleared up some of my questions.
