For the same money which one?

For the same money which one?

Postby VinylnValves » Sun Nov 19, 2017 12:39 am

I just turned 50 and I am buying myself 1 final deck. Here are the 3 choices: #1 a new VPI Prime (no cartridge), #2 Scout Master II, JMW 9 Signature, Ginko Dust Cover, Black Diamond Racing isolation set, Dynavector 20x2L and SDS or Scout Master, JMW 9 Signature, Ginko Cloud 9 isolation base, no dust cover, no cartridge, superplatter; mini HRX feet, Peripheral platter clamp, Signature weight clamp.

If they all cost the same which represents the best value with all things being considered.

Thanks for the feedback in advance.

No question, I would go with the new Prime! You'll get the 10 inch 3D tonearm and Classic Platter which offer audible improvements over the 9 inch arms on the Scout Masters, plus it has the adjustable VTA tower which is a great tool for easy adjustments to VTA.
VPI HR-X rim drive w/magnetic drive platter, 3D Ref. 12" tonearm, Lyra Titan-i cartridge, Graham Slee Reflex M & Elevator, tri-amped horn system w/electronic crossover, PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium preamp.

I agree completely with Gary for the specific reasons he mentioned. The ginko platforms are not that good, got rid of mine.

My thought is, if it's your last table, go even bigger and get the standard Avenger. There is an "Open box" Avenger listed on the SSD site at $6499.
Not really that much above what you were considering spending, and so much more turntable. Plenty of performance/growth options. Treat yourself! You deserve it!!

PS. At only 50, you more than likely have another 20 years on planet Earth, SO...................
LET THE MUSIC PLAY!!!

One of the last HR-X production/ 3DR 12" arm/ ZYX Universe II LOMC with Copper wire/ RCM Sensor 2 phono preamp/ Silver Audio Appasionata IC/ Audio Sensibiity Statement Silver Phono V2 IC

Sweet. Is that the standard motor or the Avenger "heavy" motor?
