Which tonearm for Aires 3?

Yes, the spike goes above the well walls. The female cup was adjusted a bit but still little below flush as you can see in the photo. Here is a photo of my pivot.

Thanks Jazzgene, I would say that your setup is more of an exception than the norm.

How do you determine the amount of damping fluid to be used?

The spike has never been messed with. It is quite a bit above the well wall. Did some Aries 3 come with the spike flush with the wall?

The fluid, I just used my ear. I added all the way and listened. It sounded too slow and dark so I used a q-tip and scooped out bit by bit, listening each time. When it sounded too lean, I added one drop and settled there.

Listening to my 3D arm with Kansui now. I added a 3gram brass weight and sounds much better than before! Went back to the VPI alignment gauge for now. Very easy to use.

Interestingly, my Aries 3 pivot spike is well above the well. I've never made any adjustments to it or the female portion in the arm.

yes, just like mine. I believe I purchased the Aries 3 in 2008 or 2009.

Just think about it, if you use damping fluid, then having the spike above the bearing well side wall will prevent the damping half ball from touching the fluid. IIRC, the spike height is adjustable.

The female cup in the JMW 10.5i arm is adjustable. I know with my arm, you can tell if the fluid is touching the arm because as you lift it, a bead of the fluid forms. Also, just visually, you can see how it touches the fluid.

Good to know, but I've never used the damping fluid.

I found Grado Statement 1 sounds better with just a touch of damping fluid.

Hello
Finally after reading I understand, that even if there are exceptions, with below and with the liquide, the 10 "3D is not compatible with the original pivot of Aires 3 which is thought and studied for the arm 10.5 "
It's exact?
