Logging Phono Cartridge Hours

Logging Phono Cartridge Hours

Postby Ayre Conditioned » Fri Apr 28, 2017 5:32 pm

I've been keeping track of how many sides I've played with my Purpleheart. There seems to be a debate about how many minutes the average record side has. Is it 20, 21, 22 or something different? Is this the best way to calculate usage?

I use an average of 20. Some are 17, some 18, some 19, some 20, some 21, etc. Twenty easily translates to 3 sides per hour. Really, do you need to be more accurate than that?

I can't remember if the Phoenix Eagle/Falcon or Roadrunner has that function. But it works well.

EDIT - it's the Roadrunner...

I'm not trying to go ballistic over it, I just want a way to make a good ballpark guesstimation.

I too use the Roadrunner. See the Phoenix roadrunner instructions on how to reset the counter.

You could get something like this and add it to the motor. It'll track how long the motor is on - giving you a good idea of how much use the cartridge has had.

For the price, I don't know why it's not in the ADS (Hint: Add to the ADS prime??? On the back panel??? Powered by the socket going to the motor??? Hint Hint!!! Nudge Nudge!!! Say no more...)

Lucky me I have an older unit without the updated firmware so I have no counter on mine. I guess I'll continue to count album sides.

Over the last 300ish albums I've been keeping track of, averaging ~19 minutes per side. This is for 12" 33.3 only.

Yep. Same here. Mine is only a few thousand lower than the target number too!
