Need for record mat for Prime

whats everyone's experience,

does an accessory like the 3mm funk firm achromat make an impact on sonics?

It is generally considered that the prime benefits from a record mat?

I have a Herbies Way Excellent II in 3mm. I love it. Nice thing is it's easy to clean dust and crud off. I just rinse with some distilled water (which I have for record cleaning anyway). No static issues. No sonic issue I'm able to detect.

Another vote for Herbie's Way Excellent II mat. You pretty much don't need a record clamp/weight when using it, which is a huge plus.

I have a deerskin mat that I use occasionally. I too prefer the sound of a bare classic platter.
