The tonearm board can be twice as thick as you have now without sacrificing performance. In fact, my tonearm board is twice the height of yours.

I called VPI, and they have a spacer that will go between the VTA tower assembly and my existing plates to give it enough lift to be able to crank the VTA tower back down to a reasonable level.

Thanks everyone! (Especially the folks at VPI!)

Things like this (and my forthcoming 10" Fatboy) are why I am a loyal VPI customer.

To bring this story to its logical conclusion, the riser was received from VPI and installed and everything is good and locked off now.

Huge thanks to Brf and the crew at VPI!

There are three stacked L shaped rectangular aluminum plates of about 1/8” each atop the plinth with the VTA tower mounted atop the plates. I’m not sure if that is the square arm board you referenced or not but it is definitely cut out around the corner cap.

This was what was supplied in the upgrade kit to move from the 9” to 10” arm on the SSM.

The plates are L shaped to go around the cap for the right rear foot.

I have the opposite problem and cannot get the VTA low enough for my Cadenza Black over which I am struggling to find the elusive 92° SRA on it's assymetric stylus. I have a 5/8 "donut" between the plinth and the arm board. It would appear that the stacked 1/8 L shaped plates could help that issue.
