HW-17 UPGRADE?

HW-17 UPGRADE?

Postby jpb6061 » Wed Mar 13, 2019 12:58 pm

I've got a well-used but still functioning HW-17 and was wondering if I could upgrade to reversible motor

The HW-17 is supposed to operate in both directions. If yours is not, then it is not functioning properly.

anybody want to place a small wager??? I have an old HW-17 and it's straight, not bi
It is virtually the same as the HW-16.5 of the era. I bought it as a store demo because I liked the looks.
It has a pushbutton not toggle switch for the motor. Pix on request. I just wondered "how" the motor was actually reversed electrically. Kind of assuming it's a different motor.

thanks for the replies implying I don't know how to flip a switch or tell that I have a defective machine....... If I don't know, I don't answer. I do enjoy the dialogue though, so any answer is better than crickets!

He has a very limited production 1st gen HW17 with a Table - Pump - Vacuum push buttons. The "Table" push button does not operate in the same manner as the 3-position toggle switch which you see on 99% of all HW-17.

Typically, to reverse a motor's direction simply involves reversing the motor's positive and negative.

That I know... for a DC motor. I haven't taken it apart in years, so is it an AC or DC motor? I just thought somebody would know. Was hoping all I'd have to do was change the switch. Not really a big deal as I mostly use Record Dr. Brushes manually, but reverse might be a help in drying!
