I had it backwards. I need an eagle, not falcon. Thanks anyway.

I use the RR tach with my Classic 1's built-in mini SDS. It stays between 33.31 to 33.36 depending on the warmth of the bearing/engine/lube. And I can't hear a damn bit of difference. So I'm content.

Actually the Eagle is higher output, the Falcon lower.

Orchids1 - did your Falcon sell? If not, I'd be very interested.

Thanks!

MMMC,

I have a Music Hall Cruise Control for my Thorens table. It works great for my Aries 3 as well for adjusting speed. This little unit made an audible difference on my Thorens for the better.

Still have the Falcon in storage. In fact, I forgot about it. If you’d like to buy it send me a pm. Rich

Only issue with the CC and most others is that it is not a closed loop design. The Phoenix at least allowed you to measure the platter RPM and have it adjust to your setting (33.3 or 45) to account for variances in the frequency of the 60Hz mains signal.

The Music Hall Cruise Control is also woefully underpowered for Hurst motors. It's designed for no more than 3W motors. The newer 600RPM Hurst motors are 5.5W (Falcon is designed for 5W, and does get a bit warm). 300RPM motors are 7W (which made the Eagle necessary), and older 600RPM motors were 10W. Add to all of this the fact that the speed adjustment for the Music Hall is much more course (0.1 RPM vs 0.01 RPM), and it's just not the best choice. The price is OK if, like me, you don't have the skill to build one of the DIY speed controllers, or cash to just buy a SDS or ADS.

Reminder that the Roadrunner isn't really necessary. It's possible to build your own tachometer with an Arduino board. There's still some modest technical skill required, but it's not that tough. I built one, and even helped improve the software (based on Bill's accuracy and speed refinements) to both make it more readable and to work with a Phoenix Falcon or Eagle if you luck into finding one. Works great! http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/analogue ... splay.html
