Vpi 10 3D and Miyajima Kansui

Postby Jazzgene » Fri Jul 01, 2016 6:32 pm

Finally got to set up my new jmw10 3D arm on my Aries 3 with Miyajima Kansui. After initial setup, it sounded really good. After 10 hours, I dialed in vtf, azimuth, and VTA as well. Sounds sublime. Being a jazz musician and in the recording studio a lot, I can say this combo sounds like a master tape. I am just old enough where my first leader album recorded in 1995 was all analog. I am coming from a JMW 10.5i arm with Grado Statement 1 which was not bad at all but this new combo is on another level! Can't stop listening :D

Jazzgene,

Your Aries 3 table setup with 3D arm is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L, and befits the sonic results you report. Which instrument\instruments do you play, and do you appear on any vinyl recordings available for purchase? I have been a jazz enthusiast and vinyl buyer since age 13, and would love to add your work to my library.

Thanks, MMMC. I am a guitarist. And my current album is on 180g audiophile grade double LP vinyl! I believe it's on sale for the the July 4 weekend here, it is usually 35bucks: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/geneess8
I don't really like pitching my own music so here is a review at jazztimes: http://jazztimes.com/community/articles ... l-monomyth

Just watched and listened to your promo for "Eternal Monolith" on YouTube. Spectacular!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just so delighted that you're a member of our little community.

Damn, I hate autocorrect. It's Eternal Monomyth. Apologies Gene.

Kansui is very sensitive to the azimuth setting. The VTA not so much. Tracking at 2.65 grams. Sounding much better at 48 hours.

After 50 hours with the VPI tangential alignment, I think I will give my uni-tractor a try. Uni-tractor is the predecessor to the SMARTractor. Very well made and Daniel gave me his best take for the VPI 10.5 arm. I think he calls it Uni DIN. It optimizes the last 2/3 of the LP from distortion.
