VPI Forum Terms of Service - Discussion
#1
I moved our discussion of the terms of service outside of the sticky and was attempting to remove the terms of service from that thread...but somehow deleted the entire discussion.  My apologies.  (MyBB: grr .  I had only selected a single post to remove...)

Here is our discussion in text form.  Carry on.

I will add, as another moderator, that anyone joining whose first post contains nothing but links to non audio related sites (usually porn but not always), will be banned and all content immediately purged.

Are those actually made by the owner of the account?  I thought those were scams/security vulnerabilities of the site...

What I really want to say... if at any time, you see that from my account... it was not me!!!!  Cool

All so far, as seen by me, have been from brand new users with these questionable posts placed literally moments after joining.

And don’t forget - if anyone sees anything while us mods are not online, you can use the Report button to alert us.

The old forum was also a non-secure website and we would get at least 5 new users per day that were created by an automated “bot” that would create an account and then post an ad or a link to an inappropriate website. Other than making the site secure, another way to “slow down” automated repeat spam users is to ban them based on their IP address and not by their user name which just gets recreated with a slight modification.

Is there a new user moderation function whereby all new user’s post are subject to moderation before they are publicly displayed?

Not as I’ve been made aware of. I think Mat should get the site secured, and maybe we can see if new user moderation (if possible) could be added.

I think we can do this with user groups.  We can use it the same way a user would gain an avatar or something after a certain amount of posts.  I've got some ideas on this but will wait for the Andrew queue to clear out first.  I've found some other holes we need to patch as well.  Certainly lots to do here.

The terms of service thread is now a locked sticky.  It will be more clear as a standalone post.  The rest of the discussion is now here and is open for discussion, so to speak.

Tony, I added your note (from post #2 above) to the locked version.

BTW, I'm surprised (and happy) that a terms of service statement would generate discussion.
