VPI Forum

Mat has requested feedback on both the design and topic headings for the new VPI forum.  To date, there has been very little feedback and that might be a result of his request being buried in another topic heading. 

Perhaps using the Facebook I love my VPI group as beta testers to provide feedback is not ideal as they “may” not be the same members who used the old forum…..I just don’t know, the but lack of feedback is perplexing.

Hey everyone,

I know you aren't seeing too much on the front end but we have made fantastic progress on the back end.  So much so that I finally feel confident to welcome/invite new users to join and participate in this forum.  I have the structure of the new layout and different forum threads ready to launch but I will make a thread here for you all to add feedback on what we should add.

At the moment we have (to be live shortly)

Welcome To VPI - That will be a thread for every new member to say hi in first and will have rules and things like that mentioned

FAQ Thread - We have a whole list of past and present FAQs we will add them and have it where you can participate and ask about that specific FAQ

VPI Support - all support questions in general

I Love My VPI - anyone who wants to post lots of pictures of their VPI similar to how the Facebook page is... essentially this will be where it will be ALL positive borderline fanboy/girl

VPI Good and Bad - Inspired by the other facebook group and will be a spot for constructive collaboration to help each other with issues with a system. 

General Thread - Who likes Karate and Racing Cars when they aren't listening to music?

Harry's Corner - Whatever the heck Harry feel like posting and talking about 

Mat's Corner - You get the idea

DIY Corner - Post and talk about any mod you want to your turntable or other system product.  Of course while realizing that it will probably void your warranty but you all know we are call as long as people aren't messing with their product and than being upset at us they can't put it back together.  

And then anything else you all can think of.  Please give feedback on this now so I can add in ideas or tailor in that directions.

I like the idea of the FAQ and VPI Support boards, but would rather see:
* A General Audio board be a general audio discussion
* Off-topic ideas under an Off Topic board

This would look much like the old board which had General Audio and General Chat, but would migrate "General Chat" to "Off Topic."  Off Topic is much more consistent with other forums.

Two more items:

An archive of the previous version of the forum.  There is so much data there that was good, solid advice.

Change the MyBB link at the top of the forum index page to read VPI Forum or VPI Forums. The VPi logo would be perfect in this spot.

As these things come to mind...

Please set the VPI logo as the tab icon for a browser. Seeing a logo vs a generic icon makes all the difference when I have multiple tabs open.

I know that as a 1st time VPI owner and there are not to many stores out that their that you can demo products. So we tend to ask everyone for their experiences with this or that. I would like to see maybe in the future a section based upon questions and answers related to Turntables type/ and Cartridges that work well with them and it would be a bonus if we could involve the phono stages as well - For example: Im a VPI Prime 21 owner with a Parasound JC3+ Phono stage looking for an MC Cart. that would fair well.

Jpappas, I think that would work really well in the FAQ section.  Nice!

In that particular FAQ it would be good to give tonearm specs, including their compliance, and then show some suggested cartridges that would work with it. I've tried some mismatched parts before and it wasn't pretty.

Instead of recommending specific cartridges, perhaps a short tutorial on how to properly match/select a cartridge to a particular tonearm.  I’m not necessarily a big fan of recommendations, because all you get is recommendations on what people own, and in some instances, their experience is very limited.

Yes, seems like a great idea for the FAQ's.  We used to have a section on our website for each table for a "recommended" cartridge but it got killed in the midsts of too many back end website changes.  Nonetheless, I like the idea so we need to work on it!
